Love that Limits

"Knowledge puffeth up, but charity edifieth.... But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours become a stumbling block to them that are weak.... And through thy knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ died? But when ye so sin against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, ye sin against Christ" (1 Corinthians 1,9,11,12).

Love that limits, makes us free
To live in such a way
That will help another see
The love of God today.

Love that seeks to edify
And live unselfishly,
Will often charge us to deny
Ourselves some liberty.

Love that seeks another's good,
Avoiding prideful strife,
Yearns to do what Jesus would,
And emulate His life.

Love that values other souls
As those for whom Christ died,
The Spirit of the Lord controls,
And Christ is magnified.

Love that models Christ shall thus
To our observers show
How Jesus gave Himself for us:
That's all they need to know.
