Caleb's Crown

"Caleb… said unto him [Joshua]… behold, the LORD hath kept me alive, as He said… I am this day fourscore and five years old... as my strength was then, even so is my strength now, for war, both to go out, and to come in.  Now therefore give me this mountain, whereof the LORD spake" (Joshua 14:6-12).  "The hoary head is a crown of glory, if it be found in the way of righteousness… and he that ruleth his spirit [is better] than he that taketh a city" (Proverbs 16:31,32).

When Caleb spoke of strength for war,
He knew the Lord kept him alive.
He saw God's faithfulness before
And trusted Him at eighty-five.

No wonder Caleb could be bold!
How faithful God had been to him!
Though he was eighty-five years old,
His strength from God had not grown dim.

With confidence, He'd take the mountain
That God had promised long ago.
He drew his strength as from a fountain
Of ceaseless blessings that would flow.

As we consider Caleb's crown,
O Lord, we see the strength You give
That even old age cannot drown
In those who for Your glory live.
