Beauty of the Beasts

"Wisdom hath… killed her beasts; she hath mingled her wine; she hath also furnished her table… Come, eat of My bread, and drink of the wine which I have mingled" (Proverbs 9:1-5).  "And as they did eat, Jesus took bread, and blessed, and brake it, and gave to them, and said, Take, eat: this is My body.  And He took the cup, and when He had given thanks, He gave it to them: and they all drank of it.  And He said unto them, This is My blood of the new testament, which is shed for many" (Mark 14:22-24 ). 

What beasts are these which have been killed  

By Wisdom's hand with bread and wine?

Their beauty shows what God has willed:

The slaying of His Son Divine! 

Behold the beauty of the beasts

Which have been slain and sacrificed

As God commanded in the feasts

Which have foreshadowed Jesus Christ! 

The beauty of the invitation

From Jesus Christ is ours today,

With tokens of His great salvation

Of bread and wine now on display. 

O Lord, as we behold the beauty

Of beasts portraying blood You shed, 

We have been drawn by love, not duty,

To worship at Your table spread.
