Consider the Counsel

"My people would not hearken to My voice; and Israel would none of Me.  So I gave them up unto their own hearts' lust: and they walked in their own counsels" (Psalm 81:11,12).  "Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end.  There are many devices in a man's heart; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand... Cease, my son, to hear the instruction that causeth to err from the words of knowledge" (Proverbs 19:20,21,27).  "Great and marvelous are Thy works, Lord God Almighty; just and true are Thy ways, Thou King of saints... Thy judgments are made manifest" (Revelation 15:3,4).

Consider the counsel of God
Which fools are so quick to reject,
Preferring the lies they applaud
And spurning the grace they neglect.

How tragic at last is their choice
As in their own counsels they walk,
Refusing to hear the Lord's voice
And scorning His counsel they mock.

Consider that there is an end.
The Scriptures have never been broken.
How foolish it is to pretend
That Almighty God has not spoken!

Hear counsel resulting in peace
Received as a gift from God hand.
From other instruction now cease,
For only God's counsel shall stand.

How marvelous, Lord, are Your deeds!
How just and how true are Your ways!
How good is Your counsel that leads
Our hearts to adore You with praise.

O Lord God Almighty, our King,
With angels and saints now above
We join in their chorus to sing
As we have considered Your love.

Lord, we have considered Your Word
And thereby our hearts have been blest
With counsel we gladly have heard
By which You have given us rest.

O Lord, we've considered the cost;
You offered Yourself for salvation!
Your counsel we take to the lost
To find in You justification.
