Resting in Redemption

“They that trust in their wealth, and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches, none of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him:  for the redemption of their soul is precious, and it ceaseth for ever… But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave: for He shall receive me” (Psalm 49:6-15).  “The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe” (Proverbs 18:10).

We dare not trust at all in wealth,
Nor in success that men applaud,
Nor set our hope in fleeting health,
But in redemption from our God.

We have no means to save another.
We cannot pay redemption’s price
Nor give a ransom for our brother,
But God provides a Sacrifice!

Beyond what sinners could have dreamed,
The Lord came forth to fight our strife
And ransom souls which He redeemed
By laying down His precious life.

He triumphed on the cross for us;
This was the reason that He came.
The Lamb of God is glorious;
Come, let us magnify His name!

There is no is no other place to run;
There is no other saving power.
In Christ alone the work is done;
His name is like a mighty tower.

O Lord, how wondrous is this rest
In this redemption You provide.
You bore our curse, and we are blest;
You are the Refuge where we hide.

Since You have paid redemption’s cost,
We rest in You, O Lord, alone,
Declaring now among the lost
The wondrous love that You have shown.
