Prelude of Praise

“O praise the LORD, all ye nations: praise Him, all ye people.  For His merciful kindness is great toward us: and the truth of the LORD endureth forever.  Praise ye the LORD” (Psalm 117:1,2).  “Elijah with Moses… were talking with Jesus… And a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear Him.  And suddenly… they saw no man any more, save Jesus only with themselves” (Mark 9:4-8).

O praise the Lord for His salvation!
His mercy and His truth abound!
O shout for gladness, every nation!
How wondrous is the joyful sound!

How great His mercy is to us!
His truth endures forevermore!
The work of God is glorious
Which prophets have declared before!

The Law and prophets had foretold
Our Savior would be sacrificed.
Both Moses and Elijah hold
A conversation thus with Christ.

Behold our Lord transfigured then,
As His disciples are asleep,
Conversing with those ancient men
Of His commitment to His sheep.

The sleeping audience awakes;
Not one of them knows what to say,
So Peter (known for his mistakes),
Now bids the patriarchs to stay.

We see a cloud now overspread
The three disciples filled with fear.
They’ve heard what God the Father said;
It wasn’t time to speak, but hear!

There surely is a time to speak,
But not before we listen well.
We need to listen to and seek
His Son who saves our soul from hell.

Then let the joy of Christ amaze
Your heart with truth you can’t keep in,
And let the prelude of our praise
To Jesus Christ our Lord begin!

O Lord, we see Your face alone,
As we’re astonished at Your love.
You set aside Your splendid throne
To bring redemption from above!

Be glorified with gratitude,
O Lord, for Your redeeming grace!
This life is just a short prelude
Of praise before we see Your face!
