Thrilled and Thankful

“Know ye that the LORD He is God… Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise: be thankful unto Him, and bless His name.  For the LORD is good; His mercy is everlasting; and His truth endureth to all generations” (Psalm 100:3-5).  “His children shall have a place of refuge” (Proverbs 14:23). “Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give His life a ransom for many” (Matthew 20:28).

That God is great is evident
By all the things that He has made,
Yet many think an accident
Explains creation thus displayed!

Mere honest reason should forbid
A mind to be so strangely closed,
So if our Gospel thus is hid,
Satanic blindness is imposed.

It is supremely sad and odd
To see the blind thus lead the blind,
Yet we who know the Lord is God
Are thrilled by treasures that we find!

We see His wonders in creation
To show His majesty above,
And still there’s more in His salvation
To manifest His wondrous love!

We come into His courts with praise
As on His altar sacrificed
We see the lamb which thus portrays
Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

How can our hearts now not be thrilled
In view of what our Lord has done?
Prophetic types have been fulfilled;
Our refuge is in God the Son!

We stand with all the grateful ranks
Of sinners who are ransomed now
To give Him our eternal thanks
To worship Him, and gladly bow.

O Lord, we know what we deserved,
But You have suffered in our place;
You didn’t come down to be served,
But rather to extend Your grace!

O Lord, we know You’ll come again;
Your promises are always true.
How thrilled and thankful we’ll be then
When we are face to face with You!

Until that day, Lord, make us wise:
There’s little time before the grave!
Lord, use us still to open eyes
And thrill the thankful souls You save.
