Compassion without Compromise

“Justice and judgment are the habitation of Thy throne: mercy and truth shall go before Thy face.  Blessed is the people that know the joyful sound: they shall walk, O LORD, in the light of Thy countenance…. in Thy righteousness shall they be exalted” (Psalm 89:14-16).  “When He [Jesus] saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion on them… Then saith He unto His disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the laborers are few; pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that He will send forth laborers into His harvest” (Matthew 9:36-38).

Compassion without compromise
Upon our Savior’s cross we trace,
For that is where He satisfies
His holiness with truth and grace.

The habitation of God’s throne
Is just and holy evermore.
The love of God could not condone
The sins His holy eyes explore.

Upon the cross we hear the cry
Of Christ our Savior, “It is finished!”
The judgment He could not deny
Is satisfied and undiminished!

God’s mercy and His truth abound
Through Jesus who was sacrificed;
How blest are those who know the sound
Of joyful fellowship with Christ!

That joyful sound shall never cease
Among the souls our Lord will bless,
For Christ is our eternal Peace
Who hides us in His righteousness.

He sees the multitudes today
That He is longing still to reach.
He calls us therefore to now to pray
For laborers to go and preach.

O Lord, we see the harvest field
With souls yet facing condemnation!
May Your compassion be revealed
By those of us who have salvation.

Lord, stir us with Your own compassion
To preach the Gospel we have heard
Declaring it in such a fashion
That will not compromise Your Word.
