Worth Writing

“Blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear.  For verily I say unto you, That many prophets and righteous men have desired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard them… Jesus saith unto them, Have ye understood all these things? They say unto him, Yea, Lord.  Then said He unto them, Therefore every scribe which is instructed unto the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is an householder, which bringeth forth out of his treasure things new and old” (Matthew 13:16-52).

How blest are eyes that see the light
And ears that hear the truth they sought!
How blest, as well, are hands that write
The lessons learned that God has taught.

For many prophets have desired,
Along with many righteous men,
To see and hear the things inspired
Fulfilled which they had written then.

So many walk in darkness still,
And blind men by the blind are led,
So when we understand God’s will,
We ought to note what God has said.

Our Lord Himself is now inviting
His students to take special note
Of things we learn which are worth writing,
That we may act on things we wrote.

We are instructed by the Lord,
And when we learn, it gives Him pleasure.
The things of Christ we have explored
May thus become our written treasure.

We thank You, Lord, that You unfold
The things that You affirm are true.
These written treasures, new and old,
Are precious, since we’re taught by You.
