Strength and Stillness

“God is our Refuge and Strength, a very present Help in trouble… Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth” (Psalm 46:1,10).  “Whoso hearkeneth unto Me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil” (Proverbs 1:33).

Our God is the Strength of the souls who are His,
And He is their Refuge and Help in distress.
Nothing that was, that will be, or that is,
Can ever reverse God’s intention to bless.

How great is the peace that His statement affords,
As we are commanded by Him to “Be still.”
Just knowing He’s God and that we are the Lord’s,
Gives peace to our hearts and delight in His will.

Our God sees the future and shows us as well
That all of the nations shall hail His worth.
With clearest assurance we hear Him foretell
That He’ll be exalted in all of the earth.

And thus we are stilled by the Lord as we hear
His promise to all of His people revealed,
That we shall be safe and be quiet from fear
Of evil against us, since God is our Shield.

O Lord, we give thanks for the strength You impart
And for the great peace of this stillness You give
To those who will trust You with all of their heart
And thus find Your grace to abundantly live.
