Inexcusable Inconsistency

“And He said also to the people, When ye see a cloud rise out of the west, straightway ye say, There cometh a shower; and so it is.  And when ye see the south wind blow, ye say, There will be heat; and it cometh to pass.  Ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky and of the earth; but how is it that ye do not discern this time?  Yea, and why even of yourselves judge ye not what is right?” (Luke 12:55-57).

Before a shower comes we know
That clouds will gather filled with rain,
And thus we forecast, and it’s so,
For signs have made that prospect plain.

We show how well that we can learn
The weather patterns which are clear,
So why then do we not discern
The signs which show our Lord draws near?

This is an inconsistency,
And God has stated His conclusion:
The root cause is hypocrisy,
Producing blindness and confusion.

The scorner is without excuse
With such prophetic evidence,
Which God alone can thus produce
To undergird our confidence.

The prophecies fulfilled in Christ
Identified Him as the Savior,
Who for our souls was sacrificed
To thus bestow redemption’s favor.

His birth from David’s royal line,
His place of birth in Bethlehem,
His life and death were all a sign,
As prophets prophesied of them.

His resurrection from the dead
Then rendered unbelief absurd,
For Christ is risen, as He said
Fulfilling His prophetic Word.

Since we can thus discern the skies
As weather patterns are explored,
We’re called as well to analyze
These prophecies, and trust the Lord.

Lord, thank You for the words You gave
By those who clearly thus foretold
Your life, Your death, Your vacant grave,
And future things that will unfold.

Lord, help us reach our generation
And show them prophecies unveiled,
That they may trust You for salvation,
Assured that You have never failed.

Lord, let them see Your treasures full
Discover for themselves what’s right,
Reject the inexcusable,
And be consistent with Your light.
