Teaching the Torches

“O God, Thou hast taught me from my youth: and hitherto have I declared Thy wondrous works.  Now also when I am old and grayheaded, O God, forsake me not; until I have showed Thy strength unto this generation, and Thy power to every one that is to come” (Psalm 71:17,18).  “Then Jesus said unto them, Yet a little while is the light with you... While ye have light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light” (John 12:35,36).

We know there’s a torch with a flame to be passed
To our generation of youth we may reach.
A little bit longer our torches will last:
It’s time to invest in these torches we teach!

There’s so little time, and the need is so great
To show them the reason we know what is right!
The days are so precious, the hour is late
In which we may teach them to walk in the light.

Our God has equipped us with great revelation
Supported by prophecies He has fulfilled,
And now we may pass on to this generation
Foundational proofs upon which they may build.

The flame of our torches should never grow dim,
But rather grow brighter as Christ leads us on,
As we grow in grace and the knowledge of Him,
Just as the noon day exceeds early dawn.

O Lord, grant us strength to pass on to our youth
A torch that burns brightly with Your Spirit’s flame
That they may be ready to stand for the truth,
Declaring the Gospel of Christ without shame.
