Joining Josiah

“Josiah… did that which was right in the sight of the LORD… and declined neither to the right hand, nor to the left… and made a covenant before the LORD to walk after the LORD… with all his heart, and with all his soul… And he caused all that were present… to stand to it.” (2 Chronicles 34:1,2,31,32).  “Hear this, all ye people…God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave: for He shall receive me” (Psalm 49:1,15). “Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established.  Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil” (Proverbs 4:18,26,27).

Josiah was king when idolatry soared,
And wrath upon Judah was clearly in sight.
He did what was right in the sight of the Lord,
And neither declined to the left nor the right.

Now isn’t it time that we likewise were stirred
To stand to a promise that we make to God
To follow Him fully, obeying His Word,
No matter what others around us applaud?

We look to the left and the right, and we see
A world in darkness ensnared by seduction,
But God has redeemed us!  His truth makes us free,
And He has delivered our souls from destruction!

We ponder the path of our feet as we walk,
As God gives His Word as a light to our path.
He gives us His counsel and grace as we talk
To show how the Lord has redeemed us from wrath.

Hear this, all you people!  Give ear to the truth
Extended to all, for there is no exemption,
To rich and to poor, to the old and to youth:
There’s no one but Christ who can offer redemption!

O Lord, in the light of eternity’s length,
In view of the ransom so great that You paid,
We’d love You with all of our heart, soul, and strength,
And joining Josiah, more people persuade.
