With Words

The words of his mouth were smoother than butter, but war was in his heart: his words were softer than oil, yet were they drawn swords.  Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and He shall sustain thee: He shall never suffer the righteous to be moved” (Psalm 55:21,22).  “The lips of the righteous feed many: but fools die for want of wisdom.  The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and He addeth no sorrow with it.” (Proverbs 10:21,22).

Words may be said that will hide the intention
Of war in the heart that desires no peace.
Swords may be drawn at a peaceful convention
With treaties proposing the Gospel should cease.

We cast now our burden on Jesus our Lord,
For He will sustain all who trust in His name,
Advancing His cause with His Spirit’s sharp sword,
The words of His truth we declare without shame.

The lips that are preaching the Gospel shall feed
The many who hunger to know what is true.
The counsel of fools will deny their soul’s need,
And those who will heed them shall die like them too.

With words of the Gospel we’re called to be wise,
As stewards of blessing which God freely gave.
We’re called to be faithful and not compromise,
Proclaiming that Christ, and Christ only, can save.

O Lord, we give thanks for the wonderful news
That You bore our sorrows to save us from hell.
How great are the riches we never can lose,
And great is the Gospel You send us to tell!
