Longing of our Lord

"The Lord said unto me, I have heard the voice of the words of this people which they have spoken unto thee:  they have well said all that they have spoken.  O that there were such an heart in them, that they would fear Me, and keep all My commandments always, that it might be well with them and with their children forever!” (Deuteronomy 5:28,29).

The longing of our gracious Lord
Has always been same:
He wants to see His blessings poured
On those who fear His name.

It’s time we understand this fear
That God speaks highly of,
By which He draws His people near
To shelter them with love.

We call it “reverential awe,”
As some have thus defined,
Yet there is something more God saw
In Godly fear designed.

When children heed a parent’s voice
As danger is at hand,
It makes a father’s heart rejoice,
To know they understand.

Do not we see this loving heart
In God who knows so well
That by His fear His own depart
From snares devised by hell?

O Lord, we thank You that You long
To save us by Your arm,
As by Your fear and love so strong
You shelter us from harm.
