Witnessing Wickedness

“A true witness delivereth souls: but a deceitful witness speaketh lies…. The wicked is driven away in his wickedness: but the righteous hath hope (lit., a refuge) in his death” (Proverbs 14:26,32). “The Comforter…. will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment…. These things I have spoken unto you, that in Me ye might have peace” (John 16:7,8,33).

A true witness echoes the voice of God’s Spirit,
Delivering souls by the Gospel of Christ,
Beseeching this world of sinners to hear it
And flee to the Savior for them sacrificed.

A true witness says what the Scriptures assure:
That we ALL are wicked, with hearts that are prone
To wander from God, yet His hope is secure
For all who will trust in Christ Jesus alone!

Though many object to this mention of sin,
Of righteousness needed, and judgment ahead,
A true witness knows he must never begin
To alter what God, by His Spirit, has said.

The wicked are drawn, or they’re driven away,
Depending on how they respond to God’s love.
A true witness pleads with the wicked today
To warn them of judgment at God’s throne above.

O Lord, we give thanks for the Refuge in You
Awaiting the wicked who flee from Your wrath.
In You we have peace that is perfect and true
That gives us assurance and light on our path.
