As Arrows

"Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is His reward. As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man, so are children of the youth. Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate" (Psalm 127:4,5). "Death and life are in the power of the tongue" (Proverbs 18:21).

The children God has given us,
The fruit of His reward,
Should very early learn to trust
In Jesus Christ our Lord.

Happy is the man who brings
His children in their youth
To rest beneath the Savior's wings
And rise up in His truth.

As arrows of a mighty man
With true and strengthened aim,
They find the center of God's plan
To glorify His name.

As arrows on the battlefield
Where Christ shall lead the way,
Their faith in God shall be their shield
And teach them what to say.

As arrows, children have a charge
And promise to prevail:
The enemy is still at large,
But Christ shall never fail!

O Lord, as arrows born to be released,
Our children find their place
As soldiers in Your ranks increased
By Your prevailing grace.

Lord, teach us how to aim them straight
(And let them go as well!),
To preach the Gospel in the gate
That rescues souls from hell.
