What are these Wounds?

"They shall look upon Me whom they have pierced.... And one shall say unto Him, What are these wounds in Thine hands? Then He shall answer, Those with which I was wounded in the house of My friends. Awake, O sword, against My Shepherd, and against the Man that is My fellow, saith the LORD of hosts: smite the Shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered: and I will turn Mine hand upon the little ones" (Zechariah 12:10, 13:6,7).

What are these wounds which appear
Beheld in our Savior and Lord?
Why was He pierced with a spear,
And who raised against Him the sword?

What are these wounds in His hands
Received in the house of His friends?
Why does the sword hear commands
From God with the judgment He sends?

What is the answer we've heard
Declaring the truth of the matter?
God gives His unerring Word
To those whom His own hand would scatter.

Those God has scattered He draws
Assembling His own now to see
The grace He displays on the cross
Where Christ died for you and for me!

Lord, we are surely astounded
And speechless in our adoration
For love in our Savior unbounded,
Afflicted to bring us salvation!

Keep us, O Lord, through this vision
Of wounds still unveiled above,
Drawing us closer to listen
To hear as You speak of Your love.
