Start with the Stone

"Jesus said, Take ye away the stone. Martha, the sister of him that was dead, saith unto Him, Lord, by this time he stinketh: for he hath been dead four days. Jesus saith unto her, Said I not unto thee, that, if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God?" (John 11:39,40).

Lazarus was in the grave,
And four days had elapsed.
Jesus could have come to save
Before his health collapsed.

Our Savior didn't make it known
What He would do that day;
He just said, Take away the stone:
That's all He had to say.

Our Savior surely didn't need
The help of human hands.
The wind and waves that He decreed
Would follow His commands.

But Jesus looked into the hearts
Of those so greatly grieved.
They needed grace that He imparts
To all who have believed.

He gives to us the simple task,
That He might do alone
Above what we may think or ask,
If we will move the stone.

So may we rapidly obey
What You say, Lord, to do,
And start by taking stones away
That block our trust in You.
