Boast of the Battle

"And as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said... Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe His prophets, so shall ye prosper" (2 Chronicles 20:20). "Behold the Man!.... Behold your King!.... Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took His garments, and made four parts, to every soldier a part, and also His coat.... but cast lots for it... that the Scripture might be fulfilled, which saith, They parted My raiment among them, and for My vesture they did cast lots" (John 19:5-24).

Jehoshaphat with confidence
Went forth with Judah's host;
He stood to make his great defense
And in the Lord to boast.

He called them to believe the Lord
And heed His prophets' light,
Established as they moved toward
The battle God would fight.

And so it was when they arrived
The saving work was done!
Their enemies had not survived,
And none escaped; not one!

Another battle prophesied
That God would fight as well,
Portraying Christ as crucified,
Would save our souls from hell.

We did not need to stand and fight:
God fought for us and won!
Believe His prophets: they were right
Regarding God the Son!

See the details of those thoughts
That David looked toward,
Parting raiment, casting lots
For vesture from our Lord!

O Lord, we came and found the spoil;
There's nothing left to do!
Upon Your cross that awful toil
Was finished there by You!

But we may worship and surrender
Our hearts in grateful love
And boast in Christ our great Defender
With all the saints above!
