"The curse causeless shall not come" (Proverbs 26:2). "Jesus therefore, knowing all things that should come upon Him, went forth.... Then said Jesus... The cup which my Father hath given Me, shall I not drink it?" (John 18:4,11).
Our Lord and Savior drank the cup
The Father gave to Him;
It was our curse that filled it up
With wrath that reached the brim.
Our Lord would not refuse to drink,
Nor would He even pause.
The love that led Him to that brink
Compelled Him toward that cause.
His justice must be satisfied;
Our penalty was large.
The curse against us testified,
And GUILTY was the charge!
O Lord, how can we ever thank
And praise You as we ought
For all that awful curse You drank
And all the blessing brought?
