Dwindling Days

"So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.... And let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us: and establish Thou the work of our hands upon us" (Psalm 90:12,17).

Teach us, O Lord, to number our days
That wisdom may now be applied.
Procrastination so subtly betrays
Our hearts by intentions denied.

Our dwindling days are so fleeting and few;
How quickly our time is diminished!
So teach us, O Lord, to give back to You
Our life as a portrait unfinished.

Our life is a canvass; we wait for You, Lord,
To finish Your own work of art,
And so may Your beauty in us be restored
With wisdom applied to our heart.

Lord, thereby establish the work of our hands
With value beyond our short life:
A house that is built on the Rock, and it stands,
Though storms have besieged it with strife.

How quickly our dwindling days pass away,
Just like a short watch in the night!
So grant us the wisdom to trust and obey
And walk with You, Lord, in Your light.
