"Except the LORD build the house, they labor in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain" (Psalm 127:1). "Wisdom hath builded her house… The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom… If thou be wise, thou shalt be wise for thyself: but if thou scornest, thou alone shalt bear it" (Proverbs 9:1,10,12). "The end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer… as good stewards of the manifold grace of God" (1 Peter 4:7,10).
It's possible to
labor strongly,
Yet spend our
energy in vain.
Without the Lord,
we labor wrongly,
Abandoning
eternal gain.
The Lord has
shown us wisdom's way
That guards us
as we heed His warning.
His fear will guide
us in our day
When many carelessly
are scorning.
The Lord's
return is drawing near;
This age is coming
to an end.
His Word has
made His counsel clear
On which we
wisely can depend.
O Lord, as
stewards of Your grace
That has
delivered us from wrath,
We work, we
watch, and seek Your face
With wisdom's
way to guide our path.
