Silencing Satan

"They have spoken against me with a lying tongue.... let Satan stand at his right hand.... I will greatly praise the LORD with my mouth.... For He shall stand at the right hand of the poor" (Psalm 109:2,6,30,31). "And He began to teach them, that the Son of Man must suffer many things.... And Peter took Him, and began to rebuke Him. But when He had turned about and looked on His disciples, He rebuked Peter, saying, Get thee behind Me, Satan: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but the things that be of men" (Mark 8:31-33).

The Devil counseled those who lied
And stood against our Savior.
He stood as well at Judas' side,
Directing his behavior.

O let not Satan have his way
Who whispers in the ear
To cause the heart to go astray,
Forsaking godly fear.

When Peter spoke, the Lord was kind,
Rebuking what he heard,
By telling Satan, "Get behind!"
And silenced then his word.

O Lord, we call upon Your name
To silence Satan still,
That You may spare us from the shame
Of turning from Your will!
