The Harm in Hardening

"O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the Lord our Maker. For He is our God; and we are the people of His pasture, and the sheep of His hand. Today if ye will hear His voice, harden not your heart, as in the provocation, and as in the day of temptation in the wilderness" (Psalms 95:6-8).

There's always harm in hardening
Against the Lord our hearts.
Though God continues pardoning,
There's damage this imparts.

A hardened heart cannot respond
To worship's invitation.
It rarely ever looks beyond
Its own preoccupation.

A hardened heart provokes the Lord
By pride that seeks its own.
It forfeits blessings that are stored
For humble hearts alone.

Harden not your heart today,
But heed the Savior's voice!
Cast your stubbornness away
While yet you have a choice!
