Content amid Contempt

"Behold, as the eyes of servants look unto the hand of their masters… so our eyes wait upon the LORD our God… Our soul is exceedingly filled… with the contempt of the proud" (Psalm 123:2,4).  "Deceit is in the heart of them that imagine evil: but to the counselors of peace is joy" (Proverbs 12:20).  "I am full of power by the Spirit of the LORD… to declare… to Israel his sin" (Micah 3:8).   "John answered… He  will…gather the wheat into His garner; but the chaff He will burn with fire unquenchable" (Luke 3:16,17).

Amid contempt on every side
We are content to lift our eyes
Above the scorning and the pride
Of those professing they are wise.

Deceit is in the heart of those
Who follow their imagination,
Who spurn the truth that they oppose,
And thus refuse the Lord's salvation.

The Lord has given us His Spirit
To give us power to declare
His truth to ears that yet will hear it,
So sinners wisely may beware.

We are content amid contempt,
For You have saved us, Lord, by grace
And made us from Your wrath exempt
When You became our Hiding Place.
