Schooled by Scriptures

“Ye shall not add unto the Word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it” (Deuteronomy 4:2). “Sacrifice and offering Thou didst not desire; Mine ears hast Thou opened: burnt offering and sin offering hast Thou not required. Then said I, Lo, I come: in the volume of the book it is written of Me, I delight to do Thy will, O My God: yea, Thy law is within My heart” (Psalm 40:6-8).  There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the LORD” (Proverbs 21:30).  “The Scriptures must be fulfilled” (Mark 14:49).

The Lord has given us His Word.
We neither augment nor diminish
From His commands which we have heard;
They are His truth from start to finish.

The Scriptures give our hearts instruction
Which God Himself to us provides
To guard our hearts from vain seduction
And lead us where His wisdom guides.

The Word of God declares the end
Of future things from the beginning.
We have the truth we can defend;
We’ve seen the outcome:  God is winning!

The prophecies concerning Christ
Portrayed Him as our Savior smitten,
The Lamb of God was sacrificed:
Behold it in the volume written!

So why then do the nations rage
Against the Lord and His Anointed?
Have they not read the Scripture’s page
To see the outcome God appointed?

There’s neither wisdom, understanding,
Nor counsel found against the Lord
To nullify what He’s commanding,
Which may, in Scripture, be explored.

The Scriptures shall be all fulfilled,
For every word of God is pure.
Let every fear by Christ be stilled:
His praise forever shall endure!

O Lord, how many have been fooled!
The mockers blindly stand aloof!
How good it is to now be schooled
By Scriptures with abundant proof!

O Lord, until we’re home with You,
We’re schooled by Scriptures that You gave,
Delighting us in what is true
And drawing those whom You would save!
