Point of Prophecy

“And the LORD spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend” (Exodus 33:11).  “Thou art near, O LORD, and all Thy commandments are truth” (Psalm 119:151).  “My son, keep thy Father's commandment… When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and when thou awakest, it shall talk with thee.  For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light” (Proverbs 6:20-23).  “We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place” (2 Peter 1:19).

The Lord was speaking face to face
With Moses as a Friend to friend,
And God has given us this grace
With Scriptures written to this end.

This is the point of prophecy,
For therein God has demonstrated
The sureness and integrity
Within His Word authenticated.

The Lord is near to all His own,
And they shall never be forsaken,
For He has made this promise known,
And God can never be mistaken.

So through His Word He guides our walk;
He keeps also when we sleep.
When we awake we hear Him talk,
For thus He cares for all His sheep.

His Word upon our path has shined,
Reproving us along the way.
There is no other Friend so kind
Who seeks us when we go astray!

Now in the darkness of our age
It shouldn’t take us by surprise
That mockers mock and sinners rage
Against the truth that they despise.

Yet if a skeptic asks for proof
To validate what we have said,
To him we dare not stand aloof,
But show him prophecy instead!

O Lord, we know Your Word is true,
For You provide us evidence
With prophecies fulfilled by You
On which we build our confidence!

Lord, as we’re walking in this light
Of Your fulfilled prophetic Word,
O may we answer souls aright
Who seek the proof of what we’ve heard.

The point of prophecy is plain:
Our faith is settled on its ground!
The humble search it not in vain,
But praise You, Lord, for what they’ve found!
