Consider Consecration

“He brought… the ram of consecration… and he slew it; and Moses took of the blood of it, and put it upon the tip of Aaron's right ear, and upon the thumb of his right hand, and upon the great toe of his right foot” (Leviticus 8:22,23).  “A wicked man hardeneth his face: but as for the upright, He directeth his way” (Proverbs 21:29).  “[Thou] hast made us unto our God kings and priests… Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honor, and glory, and blessing… for ever and ever” (Revelation 5:10-13).

As we consider consecration
To live for Christ, God’s worthy Lamb,
The Scripture gives an illustration
Within the consecration ram.

The ram was slain, the priest would come,
Then on his right ear blood would go,
Then blood upon his right hand’s thumb,
Then also on his right foot’s toe.

The lesson here for us is plain
Applied to ears, to hands, and feet:
We surely live our life in vain
Unless surrender is complete!

We need to hear our Savior’s voice
With readiness to do His will,
Surrendered always to His choice,
The purpose that we should fulfill.

The wicked hardens yet his face
So foolishly against the Lord,
But we are called to live by grace
Which God alone can well afford.

The Lord has made us kings and priests,
For in us He has taken pleasure.
Our risen Savior with us feasts
And shows us His salvation’s treasure.

How worthy is the Lamb of God
In view of mercies thus revealed!
Upon Him fell God’s judgment rod,
That, by His stripes, we may be healed!

Let power, wisdom, riches, strength,
With honor, glory, blessing be
Ascribed to Christ who went the length
To rescue us eternally!

The consecration we pursue
Is like a fire He has started
Which every day we should renew
With grace our Savior has imparted.

O Lord, until You call us home
(How short our life is until then!),
Reprove us quickly if we roam
To consecrate ourselves again.

Until that day on heaven’s shore
When in Your presence celebrating,
Lord, send us forth to labor more
For souls that You are consecrating.
