Riches in our Redeemer

“They that trust in their wealth, and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches; none of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him:  for the redemption of their soul is precious… But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave: for He shall receive me” (Psalm 49:6-8,15).  “Thus saith the LORD, Let not the… rich man glory in his riches: but let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth Me” (Jeremiah 49:23,24).

The soul has a value which God has esteemed
Surpassing the temporal riches of earth.
How high was that ransom by which He redeemed
The souls He assigned such an infinite worth!

The Lord gave Himself to provide for this cost;
His justice demanded His great Sacrifice.
His love would compel Him to rescue the lost,
And not all the riches of earth would suffice.

We can’t bring our riches with us to the grave;
They’re all left behind on the day that we die,
But God will receive every soul He will save,
Redeemed with a ransom unspeakably high.

So let not the rich man now glory in wealth,
But rather rejoice in the riches God gives.
The Lord is our Treasure of riches and health,
For He has redeemed us, and He ever lives.

O Lord, we give thanks for our riches in You!
In this we will glory:  that we know Your love!
There’s no other standard of wealth that is true
In all of this earth or in heaven above.
