Raging vs. Resting

“Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?  The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against His Anointed (i.e. Christ)” (Psalm 2:1,2).  “To whom He said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear… Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a Foundation a Stone, a tried Stone, a precious Corner Stone, a sure Foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste (i.e., shall be safe)” (Isaiah 28:12-16).

Why would kings and nations rage
Against our Savior Jesus Christ?
We see it in this present age
And when our Lord was sacrificed.

But God will yet extend His rest
To every weary soul He wins.
In Christ the Lord we are refreshed,
Who cleanses us from all our sins.

The Gospel message is so plain
Which many still refuse to hear!
Shall not we count the lost insane
In view of judgment drawing near?

There is a sure Foundation Stone:
His name is Jesus Christ our Lord.
Our rest is found in Him alone,
Where we have fled from judgment’s sword.

How solid is this sure Foundation
Where we may rest with certainty.
In Christ the Lord we have salvation
That’s settled for eternity!

O Lord, we thank You for the grace
Which took away our sin and shame,
That You might be the Resting Place
Of all who call upon Your name.
