Deciding our Delight

“Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.  But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night” (Psalm 1:1,2).  “My son, keep thy Father's commandment… When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and when thou awakest, it shall talk with thee” (Proverbs 6:20-22).  “Take hold of My strength…make peace with Me” (Isaiah 27:5).  “Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth… Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom” (Colossians 3:2,16).

We are deciding everyday
To walk the path of wrong or right.
We either choose to go astray
Or in the Lord to take delight.

There is a choice that we must make
Regarding where delight begins:
We either live for Jesus’ sake,
Or we are captive to our sins.

As we delight in God we find
That He will teach us how to live.
The Word of God will cleanse our mind
And rule our heart with peace He’ll give.

Take His strength!  Make peace with God!
This is the offer He extends!
Forget what others may applaud,
Though this may sever certain friends.

Now set your heart on things above,
Not on things upon this earth.
In view of God’s eternal love,
There’s nothing that compares in worth.

O Lord, we thank You for Your Word
That dwells so richly in our heart.
Delighting in Your counsel heard,
We find the wisdom You impart.

We praise You, Savior, for the vision
That sets us free by what is true!
Our daily joy is the decision
To set affections all on You!
