Schooling the Scorner

"Then answered the LORD... Wilt thou also disannul My judgment?  Wilt thou condemn Me, that thou mayest be righteous?" (Job 40:6-8).  "The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God" (Psalm 14:1).  "Surely He scorneth the scorners: but He giveth grace unto the lowly.  The wise shall inherit glory: but shame shall be the promotion of fools " (Proverbs 3:34,35).  "Thy heart is not right in the sight of God.  Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray God, if perhaps the thought of thine heart may be forgiven thee" (Acts 8:21,22).

The Lord will teach those who will hear,
Reproving sheep that go astray.
Let all of those who have an ear
Receive instruction while they may.

The Lord is righteous; we are not,
Yet scorners think they may annul
The wrath of God with clever thought,
And thereby self-condemn their soul.

There is a proper time and place
To be corrected in God's school.
The scorner who rejects His grace
Shall earn the title of a fool.

Our Savior is forever holy,
Exalted high on heaven's throne,
But He gives grace now to the lowly,
And makes His great salvation known.

To those who call upon His name,
He gives salvation by His favor.
The fool's promotion shall be shame,
Who choose to scorn the only Savior.

The Lord is ready to forgive
The soul receiving His instruction,
But scorners still would rather live
Without restraint in their seduction.

We thank You, Lord, for steadfast love
Which brought You to this place of scorn,
Descending from Your throne above,
That we might thus be heaven-born.

We preach the Gospel that You gave
Which schools the scorners in Your fear,
Yet shows them, Lord, that You will save
Repentant sinners who draw near.
