Promise and Prerogative

“The haters of the LORD should have submitted themselves unto Him… They know not, neither will they understand; they walk on in darkness: all the foundations of the earth are out of course” (Psalm 81:15, 82:5).  “Deliver thyself as a roe from the hand of the hunter, and as a bird from the hand of the fowler” (Proverbs 6:5).  “For the promise is unto you… And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation” (Acts 2:39,40).

The haters of the Lord today
Have exercised their right.
They will not hear what God will say.
They will not walk in light.

They choose to walk in darkness now;
They will not understand.
They neither know nor will allow
The leading of God’s hand.

They have destroyed their own foundation;
Their house is doomed to fall.
Yet still God offers His salvation
Through Jesus Christ to all.

The Lord gives us prerogative,
The will, that is, to choose.
It is a choice to die or live;
A choice we may abuse.

We cannot save ourselves, we know,
Apart from saving grace,
But God delivers those who show
That they will seek His face.

The promise stands!  All who repent
And call upon the Lord,
To them salvation shall be sent,
Which others have ignored.

O Lord, we thank You that You gave
A choice to exercise
To take our place with those You save,
Rejecting Satan’s lies!

O happy choice!  Lord, we give thanks
That You have paid the price
That we may break from blinded ranks
Who spurn Your sacrifice!
