Heaven's Portrait in Haman's Punishment

“Esther said, The adversary and enemy is this wicked Haman… So they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai. Then was the king's wrath pacified” (Esther 7:6,10).  “He showed Himself alive after His passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God” (Acts 1:3).

Our tireless foe and our soul’s enemy
Who day after day would condemn and accuse,
Is like the historical Haman we see
Who hatefully sought to destroy all the Jews.

But Haman was hanged on the gallows he made,
And thus was the wrath of the king pacified,
And herein a portrait of Christ is displayed,
When Jesus had triumphed for us when He died.

For Satan had hatefully done all he could
That we might forever in hell suffer loss,
And but for God’s grace we most certainly would
If Christ had not paid all our debt on the cross!

It looked like the Savior was weak and defeated
When Jesus was dying in agony then,
But this was where God’s battle plan was completed,
For Christ came to seek and to save sinful men!

How great were the infallible proofs that He gave
When Jesus was risen and spoke to His own!
How marvelous had been His passion to save!
How mightily then was His triumph made known!

We thank You, O Lord, for the wonderful plan
Which You carried out when You came from above.
You laid down Your life to redeem sinful man
And we now rejoice in Your triumphant love!
