Keys Held to a Kept Heart

“Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life… Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil” (Proverbs 4:23,27).  “Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou Me more than these? He saith unto Him, Yea, Lord; Thou knowest that I love Thee. He saith unto him, Feed My lambs… Follow Me” (John 21:15-19).

If we would keep our hearts today
From things that draw us by seduction,
And if we would not go astray,
We hold the keys in God’s instruction.

Now after Christ and Peter dined,
The Lord presented then His keys.
The first key probed his heart and mind
With “Do you LOVE Me more than these?”

The second key:  OBEDIENCE.
The Lord had lambs and sheep to feed,
And this would call for diligence
And prayer for grace that he would need.

The third key: FOLLOW Christ the Savior,
And turn not to the left or right.
The Lord would guard his heart with favor
And keep him walking in the light.

We hold these keys that keep the heart,
In Christ’s instruction we have heard.
We find the grace He will impart
When we will hear and heed His Word.

We thank You, Lord, as now we view
These keys imparted by Your grace
To love, obey, and follow You,
With hearts thus kept to seek Your face.
