Wonderful Will

“We… besought him not to go up to Jerusalem.  Then Paul answered, What mean ye to weep and to break mine heart? for I am ready not to be bound only, but also to die at Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.  And when he would not be persuaded, we ceased, saying, The will of the Lord be done” (Acts 21:12-13).

Among the persuasions the heart may receive,
The cause to embrace as priority one
That anchors our calling in what we believe
Is this:  that the will of the Lord may be done.

The course set before us is seen as a race,
As looking to Jesus, we patiently run.
The goal of our labor of love we embrace
Is still that the will of the Lord may be done.

Yes, this is the prize of our calling so high,
Now this is the triumph at last to be won,
And this is our reason to live and to die:
To find that the will of the Lord may be done.

We thank You, O Lord, for the promise You gave
To finish in us all the work You’ve begun.
Alive evermore, You are able to save,
That in us Your wonderful will may be done!
