Converting, Convincing, Convicting

“The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul… The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart… The judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether” (Psalm 19:7-9).  “They should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them” (Acts 28:27).

Converting the soul, and convincing the heart,
Convicting the sinner of sin:
We see our conversion thus traced to the start
Where God, by His Word, will begin.

The Law of the LORD is found perfect indeed,
Which shows we are sinfully flawed,
And by its perfection we thus see our need
To seek our conversion by God.

His Statutes convince us of that which is right,
Though Satan still authors confusion.
Rejoice!  For the Lord is our Life and our Light:
How bright is redemption’s conclusion!

His Judgments are righteous and true altogether
Convicting the sinner at last,
Yet point us as well to the cross where forever
The judgment of God is now past!

We thank You, O Lord, for Your Word that reveals
The way to escape condemnation:
We see in Your cross the redemption that heals
And freely bestows Your salvation!
