Seeking a Sign

"The Pharisees... desired Him that He would show them a sign from heaven. He answered and said unto them, When it is evening, ye say, It will be fair weather, for the sky is red. And in the morning, It will be foul weather today, for the sky is red and lowring. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky, but can ye not discern the signs of the times?" (Matthew 16:1-3).

How plentiful were the miracles shown
That Jesus our Savior displayed,
In order that grace might thereby be known,
Which all of these signs had portrayed.

Why were these signs that were offered by Christ
Forgotten, as if there were none?
How could they have not supremely sufficed
To manifest fully God's Son?

Surely there's more than is meeting our eye
And more than is heard with our ear,
For those who can logically look at the sky,
Can tell if a storm will draw near.

But Satan's deception is rendering blind
The souls who care not to believe,
And thus, by permission, he darkens their mind,
Obscuring what they should perceive.

O Lord, give us power to open blind eyes
To turn them from darkness to flee
From Satan's dominion, destruction, and lies,
To truth that will render them free.
