Eloquence of Evidence

"O Lord my God, I pray thee, let this child's soul come into him again. And the Lord heard the voice of Elijah, and the soul of the child came to him again, and he revived.... And Elijah said, See, thy son liveth. And the woman said to Elijah, Now by this I know that thou art a man of God, and that the Word of the Lord in thy mouth is truth" (1 Kings 17:21-24).

The child of the widow died
Where Elijah yet was staying.
Elijah to the Lord then cried;
The Lord God heard him praying.

The child's soul returned again,
And Elijah to her said,
"See, your son lives," showing then
Her son raised from the dead.

The woman's faith revived as well,
For now she thereby knew
The living God had stooped to tell
By this His Word was true.

Our God provides the evidence
For faith in every season,
Providing thus with eloquence
Defense with ample reason.

Has not Christ's empty tomb sufficed
With prophecies fulfilled?
Behold, He lives! By Jesus Christ
All honest doubt is stilled!
