Refusing the Refuge

"The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it and is safe" (Proverbs 18:10). "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not" (Matthew 23:37).

There is a Refuge in the name
Of Jesus Christ, God's Son.
He is the Shelter from our shame
Where we may safely run.

We're trusting in His saving power;
We rest with confidence.
He is our strong, sufficient Tower,
And He is our Defense.

How strange it is when one resists
God's gracious Hiding Place!
No other one on earth exists;
In Christ alone is grace.

Longing for Jerusalem,
We know the Savior sought
Like a hen to gather them;
He would, but they would not.

And so it is today as well
That many still refuse
The One who rescues us from hell,
And thus perdition choose.

Thank You, Lord, that You provide
A Refuge for the lost.
You paid the price so we could hide;
How great, Lord, was that cost!
