Light of His Love

Read:  Psalm 112 / Proverbs 13 / Genesis 43 / Acts 1

Psalm 112:4 Unto the upright there ariseth light in the darkness: he is gracious… full of compassion, and righteous.

Proverbs 13:9,17 The light of the righteous rejoiceth... A faithful ambassador is health.

Genesis 43:29 And he lifted up his eyes, and saw his brother Benjamin... And he said, God be gracious unto thee, my son.

Acts 1:8 Ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem... and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

In darkness there arises light

That shines with heaven’s gracious favor.

How good and pleasant is the sight

Of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior!

Ambassadors of light arise!

Declare our Savior’s wondrous love!

The harvest waits: lift up your eyes

To Christ who intercedes above.

Joseph foreshadowed Jesus

Read:  Psalm 111 / Proverbs 12 / Genesis 42 / John 21

Psalm 111:4 He hath made his wonderful works to be remembered: the LORD is gracious and full of compassion.

Proverbs 12:19 The lip of truth shall be established for ever: but a lying tongue is but for a moment.

Genesis 42:8,9 Joseph knew his brethren, but they knew not him.  And Joseph remembered the dreams which he dreamed.

John 21:25 There are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if ... written... I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen.

How wonderful the memory is

Of all our Savior did for us!

He paid the price to call us His!

Amazing love!  How marvelous!

As dreams of Joseph’s exaltation

Foreshadowed Jesus who would rise,

So too, our Lord’s humiliation

Was seen, as Scripture testifies.

Sent by our Savior

Read:  Psalm 110 / Proverbs 11 / Genesis 41 / John 20

Psalm 110:1,3 The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool... Thy people shall be willing in the day of thy power.

Proverbs 11:30 The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.

Genesis 41:43 And he made him to ride in the second chariot which he had; and they cried before him, Bow the knee: and he made him ruler over all the land of Egypt.

John 20:21 Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.

The Lord is risen and ascended;

He is enthroned at God’s right hand.

We are the sinners He defended

Who now are sent by His command.

We bow the knee!  Our tongues confess

That Jesus is our Lord and Savior.

We preach His Gospel that will bless

All those who seek His saving favor.

Memory of His Mercy

Read:  Psalm 109 / Proverbs 10 / Genesis 40 / John 19

Psalm 109:3-5 They compassed me about with... hatred... they have rewarded me evil for good, and hatred for my love.

Proverbs 10:7 The memory of the just is blessed.

Genesis 40:23 Yet did not... remember Joseph, but forgat him.

John 19:30 Jesus therefore... said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.

The raging floods of scorn and hate

Could never drown my Savior’s love.

What wondrous love is this so great

That brought redemption from above!

Let not His memory be diminished!

Remember how our Savior fought

Until His work for us was finished;

Let not His mercy be forgot!

Gladly Fixed in Godly Fear

Read:  Psalm 108 / Proverbs 9 / Genesis 39 / John 18

Psalm 108:1 O God, my heart is fixed; I will sing and give praise, even with my glory.

Proverbs 9:10,12 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom… If thou be wise, thou shalt be wise for thyself: but if thou scornest, thou alone shalt bear it.

Genesis 39:9 Neither hath he kept back anything from me...  how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?

John 18:40 Then cried they all again, saying, Not this man, but Barabbas. Now Barabbas was a robber.

My heart is fixed!  I’ll sing His praise

With wisdom anchored in His fear.

These surely are the latter days;

Our Lord’s return is drawing near.

We dare not rob the Lord by sinning

Like those who live in unbelief!

The fear of God is the beginning

Of wisdom sparing us from grief.

Blood Bought

Read:  Psalm 107 / Proverbs 8 / Genesis 38 / John 17

Psalm 107:1,2 O give thanks unto the LORD, for he is good: for his mercy endureth forever. Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy.

Proverbs 8:30,31 Then I was by him... daily his delight...  and my delights were with the sons of men.

Genesis 38:29 How hast thou broken forth?

John 17:24 Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory…  for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world.

The Lord is good!  Let us give thanks

As we recall we are redeemed.

We praise Him with the blood-bought ranks

For riches greater than we dreamed.

How have we broken forth from sin

Which held us with its dreadful cords?

Praise God!  Our Savior entered in

To ransom us!  We are the Lord’s!

Declare vs. Decline

Read:  Psalm 106 / Proverbs 7 / Genesis 37 / John 16

Psalm 106:2,47 Who can utter the mighty acts of the LORD? who can shew forth all his praise?... Save us, O LORD our God… to give thanks… and to triumph in thy praise.

Proverbs 7:24,25 Hearken unto me now therefore, O ye children… Let not thine heart decline… go not astray.

Genesis 37:10,11 Shall I and thy mother and thy brethren indeed come to bow down ourselves to thee to the earth? And his brethren envied him; but his father observed the saying.

John 16:33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

There is no limit we can find

Of praise to God we may declare,

Yet if our first love has declined,

Let us be honest and beware!

Let us observe what God has spoken

In times of peace or tribulation,

For not one promise shall be broken

Of Christ’s prophetic declaration.

Showing His Salvation

Read:  Psalm 105 / Proverbs 6 / Genesis 36 / John 15

Psalm 105:1,2 O give thanks unto the LORD; call upon his name: make known his deeds among the people. Sing unto him, sing psalms unto him: talk ye of all his wondrous works.

Proverbs 6:20,22 My son, keep thy father's commandment… When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and when thou awakest, it shall talk with thee.

Genesis 36:1,43 Now these are the generations of Esau, who is Edom… Esau the father of the Edomites.

John 15:22-27 If I had not come and spoken unto them, they had not had sin…  If I had not done among them the works which none other man did, they had not had sin: but now have they both seen and hated both Me and My Father… ye also shall bear witness.

It is our honor to make known

Our Savior and His wondrous deeds.

The Word of God has clearly shown

How Jesus met our deepest needs!

Though Esau’s kings had prominence,

They had a godless reputation,

But Christ shows His magnificence

By demonstrating His salvation.

Message and the Meditation

Read:  Psalm 104 / Proverbs 5 / Genesis 35 / John 14

Psalm 104:34 My meditation of him shall be sweet: I will be glad in the LORD.

Proverbs 5:21 For the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD, and he pondereth all his goings.

Genesis 35:18 And it came to pass… that she [Rachel] called his name Ben-oni [Son of My Sorrow]: but his father called him Benjamin [Son of My Right Hand].

John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

The message and the meditation

Are sweet as we have gladly pondered

How Christ accomplished our salvation

When we were lost like sheep that wandered.

As we are thinking on His name,

We view His triumph in the strife:

The Man of Sorrows bore our shame!

He is the Way, the Truth, the Life.

Removed and Reproved

Read:  Psalm 103 / Proverbs 4 / Genesis 34 / John 13

Psalm 103:12 As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us.

Proverbs 4:23 Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.

Genesis 34:1 And Dinah the daughter of Leah, which she bare unto Jacob, went out to see the daughters of the land.

John 13:8,12 Jesus answered… If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me… Know ye what I have done to you?

As far as east is from the west

Our sins from us have been removed.

Our hearts by this may surely rest,

And thereby also be reproved.

For if our hearts may be inclined

To go astray from what is true,

Our Lord’s reproof should change our mind:

“Know ye what I have done to you?”

Lord of the Lowly

Read:  Psalm 102 / Proverbs 3 / Genesis 33 / John 12

Psalm 102:19,20 He hath looked down from the height of his sanctuary… to hear the groaning of the prisoner; to loose those that are appointed to death.

Proverbs 3:34 He giveth grace unto the lowly.

Genesis 33:14 I will lead on softly, according as the cattle that goeth before me and the children be able to endure.

John 12:38 That the saying of Esaias the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spake, Lord, who hath believed our report? and to whom hath the arm of the Lord been revealed?

The Lord enthroned is high and holy,

Yet He has heard the captive groan.

The Lord gives grace to save the lowly

And makes His lovingkindness known.

He leads us softly by His Word,

And by His stripes our souls are healed.

How graciously we are assured

By all His prophets have revealed!

Decision on Distraction

Read:  Psalm 101 / Proverbs 2 / Genesis 32 / John 11

Psalm 101:3 I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me.

Proverbs 2:6 For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.

Genesis 32:10 I am not worthy of the least of all the mercies, and of all the truth, which thou hast shewed unto thy servant.

John 11:39,40 Take ye away the stone… Said I not… if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God?

No wicked thing before my vision

Shall stay, nor shall it cleave to me.

This is the only wise decision

That, from distraction, makes me free!

The Lord has called me to His feast

To see His grace and truth in action.

Now let His glory be increased:

Remove the stone of vain distraction!

Witness of His Works

Read:  Psalm 100 / Proverbs 1 / Genesis 31 / John 10

Psalm 100:3 Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

Proverbs 1:29 For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD:

Genesis 31:50 See, God is witness betwixt me and thee.

John 10:25 Jesus answered them, I told you… the works that I do in my Father's name, they bear witness of me.

How can the people be so wrong,

Refusing God in their confusion?

The witness of His works is strong,

Yet fools embrace their false conclusion.

The evidence that we behold

Abundantly in all creation

Is joined with prophecies foretold

Which were fulfilled in our salvation.
