Words of the Wise

Read:  Psalm 130 / Proverbs 16 / Eccl. 10 /Luke 3

Psalm 130:3,4 If thou, LORD, shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand? But there is forgiveness with thee, that thou mayest be feared.
Proverbs 16:6,24 By mercy and truth iniquity is purged…by the fear of the LORD men depart from evil… Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul…health to the bones.
Ecclesiastes 10:12 The words of a wise man's mouth are gracious; but the lips of a fool will swallow up himself.
Luke 3:4 As it is written in the book of the words of Esaias the prophet, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.

We have the words that make us wise
And make us messengers as well.
We hold the truth that opens eyes
With joyful tidings that we tell.

By grace and truth our sins are purged;
By godly fear we turn from sin.
By gracious words are sinners urged
To come to Christ and let Him in.
