Happy or Hopeless

"Happy is that people whose God is the LORD" (Psalm 144:15).  "For whoso findeth Me findeth life, and shall obtain favor of the LORD.  But he that sinneth against Me wrongeth his own soul" (Proverbs 8:35,36).  "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life… He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him" (John 3:16,36).

The people whose God is the Lord
Are happy that He is their Savior.
How wonderful is the reward
They find in His life and His favor.

In contrast, we see the destruction
Of those who are hopeless indeed,
Who follow this world's seduction
Instead of the Savior they need.

The light of God's love on our path
Is cause for our joy to be full,
But dark is the broad way to wrath,
And hopeless therein is the soul.

With destinies, Lord, so contrasting
Of happy and hopeless conditions,
We thank You for life everlasting,
And plead with the sinner who listens.
