Framing Freedom

"In those days there was no king in Israel, but every man did that which was right in his own eyes" (Judges 17:6).  "Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the Light of the world: he that followeth Me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life…  The Father hath not left Me alone; for I do always those things that please Him… If ye continue in My Word, then are ye My disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free… ye shall be free indeed" (John 8:12,29-36).

There is a freedom that is wise
With wisdom that God's Word will frame,
But doing right in one's own eyes
Against God's counsel causes shame.

The Lord will show us what is right
If we continue in His Word.
We find true freedom in His light
As we obey what we have heard.

As Jesus always did those things
That pleased the Father in His day,
We see the frame this standard brings
Of freedom's light upon our way.

O Lord, Your Word is all we need
For framing freedom You have shown,
Since You have made us free indeed
By all the truth You have made known.
