Callous Counsel

"Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?  The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his Anointed, saying, Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us" (Psalm 2:1-3).  "Then gathered the chief priests and the Pharisees a council, and said, What do we?  For this Man doeth many miracles… Then from that day forth they took counsel together for to put Him to death" (John 11:47-53).

Why do the nations rage in vain
With counsel that is not the Lord's?
What can they ever hope to gain
By casting off the Savior's cords?

With cords of love the Lord has drawn
The nations of humanity!
Where has their sense of reason gone,
Allowing such insanity?

The chief priests and the Pharisees,
Who saw the miracles of Christ,
With callous counsel gave decrees
That this Man should be sacrificed.

O Lord, how callous and how blind
Is counsel that rejects Your grace!
We pray for those who yet may find
Salvation as they seek Your face.
