Attentive in the Aftermath

"When their judges are overthrown in stony places, they shall hear my words; for they are sweet" (Psalm 141:6).  "Hear Me now therefore… lest thou… say, How have I hated instruction!" (Proverbs 5:7-12).  "O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken!… These are the words which I [Jesus] spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning Me" (Luke 24:25,44).

There is a time, not far from now,
When mockers shall be overthrown,
And every knee shall surely bow
To Jesus Christ as Lord alone.

Though in this day we loudly hear
The scornful voices of seduction,
The day of Christ's return draws near
To judge those hating His instruction.

O may we not be slow of heart
To trust the words by prophets spoken!
Let doubtful lethargy depart,
For not one Scripture shall be broken.

We know, Lord, in the aftermath,
That every mocker then shall mourn,
Attentive when consumed by wrath
Which, foolishly, they chose to scorn.
