Embrace the Expectation

"Speak; for Thy servant heareth.  And the LORD said…  I will perform… all things which I have spoken… When I begin, I will also make an end… And Samuel… let none of His words fall to the ground" (1 Samuel 3:11,12,19).  "LORD, Thou hast heard the desire of the humble: Thou wilt prepare their heart, Thou wilt cause Thine ear to hear" (Psalm 10:17).  "Thy expectation shall not be cut off" (Proverbs 24:14).  "Jesus, knowing that all things were now accomplished… saith… It is finished" (John 19:28-30).

We ought to hear God's precious Word
As Samuel, with a humble heart,
Who with desire then was stirred
To be God's servant from the start.

We won't let words fall to the ground
When we embrace the expectation
That God is speaking, and we've found
His counsel for each situation.

There's nothing that we need to fear
When we are trusting and  obeying,
For God will surely cause His ear
To hear the humble who are praying.

Lord, on the cross, Your work was finished
That saves the sinner by Your grace.
This is Your promise undiminished,
The expectation we embrace.
