Excellence of our Exodus

"Now there arose up a new king over Egypt, which knew not Joseph" (Exodus 1:8).  "Deliver me, O LORD, from mine enemies: I flee unto Thee to hide me" (Psalm 143:9).  "Through desire a man, having separated himself, seeketh... a strong Tower... a Friend that sticketh closer than a brother" (Proverbs 18:1,10,24).  "For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that ye through His poverty might be rich" (2 Corinthians 8:9).

In Exodus, when Joseph died,
A king who knew him not appeared,
When idols then were multiplied
And God Almighty was not feared.

There comes a time for separation
To seek the Lord who died for us.
We have escaped from condemnation,
For Christ secured our "exodus."

In Christ alone we have a Friend
Who manifested such desire
That He left heaven to defend
And save us from the lake of fire.

Lord, thank You for the excellence
Of our great exodus procured
Because You came to our defense
And on the cross for us endured.
