Rebuke and Ransom

“There is that maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing: there is that maketh himself poor, yet hath great riches.  The ransom of a man's life are his riches: but the poor heareth not rebuke… A faithful ambassador is health.” (Proverbs 13:7,8,17).

Rebuke enriches those who hear,
Responding with obedience
To seek the Lord as He is near
And find in Him their soul’s defense.

Behold the riches of His grace
Within the ransom He provides!
The one who truly seek His face
Thus in the Savior safely hides.

But those who neither heed the warning
Nor hear rebuke that comes from God,
May for a season go on scorning,
But soon shall face His judgment rod.

The Spirit whom the Lord outpours
Reproves the sinner of his sin,
And so do His ambassadors
Who pray for souls they seek to win.

As Your ambassadors, O Lord,
We would be faithful as we tell
Of truest riches You afford
Which ransom precious souls from hell.

By Your rebuke, Lord, we have wealth;
Your Ransom is unspeakable
In which we find eternal wealth
And the salvation of our soul!

Lord, grant us wisdom as we speak
To those yet lost in poverty,
Who by rebuke may turn and seek
Your ransom that will set them free.
